Here is my story:

.....

He disliked this, it made no sense.

Torpaz shook out his feathers, almost as though shaking away the thought, he had to focus.
What he was here for?  Something like instinct, on the cusp of hearing told him what he should be looking for. As a mineral-eating, gem-detecting alicanto bird, he assumed the answer was self-explanatory.

He paused, testing his immediate surroundings, searching for a pinpoint of light, a gem of any kind.
The area around him was a large rocky valley, with splashes of bright green dotted onto the orange rocks. It looked somehow artificial, like the ground had been broken open as a gorge. He didn’t know what the rest of this place, this illusion, looked like or what could have caused this appearance.

Torpaz felt oddly vulnerable. He had no idea what could be watching him.
The gold bird’s thoughts were interrupted as he detected something on the side of the wall. With a smooth movement he spread his shimmering wings and glided over to the side.

There was a slight hole through the rocks, about as big as his talon if he made it into a fist. The rocky wall was very crumbly, when he scraped at it with his talons it began to give way.
With a start he sprang back into the air, but not soon enough. A small rock knocked him off balance and he tumbled heavily into the rubble.
Angrily, he shook the crumbled rock off his back and turned to the sight of a large glittering gem. Veins of dark forest green spread out through the stone, the vibrant green almost seemed living. It was almost rectangular, an odd-looking, smooth faced, uneven shape.

He found this large stone oddly unnerving. It was out of the ordinary. Such a stone should not be found in a place like this.

The golden male paced forward with the odd gait of a bird on the ground, to taste the smooth surface of the gem he reached out his hooked strong beak.

“Ting”.
Torpaz spun and everything blacked out around him.

The Alactino’s eyes opened.
From his vantage point he could see dawn was rising over the crest of the trees. Torpaz shuffled his feet on the edge of the great cliff he called home. Even the birds had not woken yet.
“What a strange dream…” He thought. It had seemed so real.

Torpaz disliked this.

.......
